What to Do If You Are Bullied

If you’re being bullied online or in person, it’s important to know that you’re not alone and that there are steps you can take to protect yourself. Use this checklist as a guide to respond calmly and effectively.

Stay Calm– Don’t respond with anger. Take deep breaths and avoid retaliating.

Document Everything – Take screenshots, save messages, and keep a record of bullying incidents with dates and details.

Do Not Delete Evidence – Keep any threatening or harassing content for reporting purposes.

Tell Someone You Trust – Talk to a parent, teacher, school counselor, or trusted adult.

Block the Bully – Use platform tools to block the person harassing you online.

Report the Bullying –  Use the platform’s reporting tools and inform your school or workplace.

Secure Your Accounts – Change passwords and review your privacy settings to limit contact from strangers.

Avoid Engaging Further – Do not respond to further messages. Disengagement helps reduce escalation.

Seek Emotional Support – Speak with a counselor or mental health professional if you feel anxious, depressed, or scared.

Practice Self-Care – Do things that make you feel happy, safe, and empowered.

Know Your Rights – Understand school and legal protections available to you.
